It's a pretty decent soulslike, that has some great moments, and some pretty glaring flaws. I don't think I can say it enough, but Steelrising setting is pretty effing great.īut, beside that, is the game good? Yes, mostly. You play a self-conscious dancer automat named Aegis, sent by the queen Marie-Antoinette to investigate the situation and stop the king, and who discover a Paris turned into a gigantic graveyard, with its streets teeming with corpses and patrolled by weird and deadly automats. The game takes place in a post apocalyptic Paris, where a Louis 16 broken by grief has unleashed an army of automats upon the people who hoped to challenge his rule. When it comes to historical authenticity, this game puts AC: Unity to shame.Īnd that's despite its (IMO incredible) setting. Steelrising oozes love and respect for it historical setting, from the physical recreation of famous french characters (from Louis 16 to Robespierre or Lafayette) to minor details that are unknown to all but expert of the era (did you know the journalist Marat started as an orleanist, before becoming a more radical montagnard? The creator of Steelrising did!). What I got was probably the best game taking place during the french Revolution. I bought Steelrising expecting a pretty mediocre AA Soulslike.
